Introducing the team
This initiative lead by Region IV Development and is being undertaken in partnership with U.S. Department of Agriculture – Rural Development (USDA-RD), Dairy West, the College of Southern Idaho (CSI), University of Idaho (U of I), Southern Idaho Economic Development (SIED), and the Idaho Small Business Development Center (SBDC). RIVDA has been awarded funding from USDA-RD through their Rural Community Business Grant (RBDG) program to help fund a portion of this study. We have also received funding from Chobani as well as private donors to complete this study.
Region IV Development
RIVDA is a private, not-for-profit corporation that was established in 1975 to encourage the development and diversification of the economy in South-central Idaho. Since its inception, RIVDA has been recognized by U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) as the regional Economic Development District (EDD) serving the eight counties of South-central Idaho, which includes Blaine, Camas, Cassia, Gooding, Jerome, Lincoln, Minidoka, and Twin Falls.
Dairy West represents dairy farm families in Idaho and Utah to promote the dairy industry and products locally, nationally and globally. We are passionate about what we do, every day, because dairy farmers play a critical role in providing the world with safe and nutritious food. From forging industry partnerships to hosting community events, Dairy West seeks to deliver impactful information and experiences that can help secure a brighter future for us all. We thrive on big ideas, and strive to create an environment in which the dairy community is a positive change-maker. Our goal is to have the world see dairy the way see it: as a key ingredient in the health and prosperity of our planet.
University of Idaho

College of Southern Idaho
The College of Southern Idaho, one of the fastest growing educational institutions in the State of Idaho. Recognized as a progressive campus where students have the opportunity to excel in any endeavor, the students are considered the most important individuals on our campus. CSI offers many unique opportunities and services to help students realize their lifelong goals. CSI is recognized for outstanding faculty, facilities their our student-centered environment. In addition to excellent programs, CSI offers many support services to help students succeed: study skills classes, tutoring, learning centers, advising, financial aid, and health services to name some. Students can also participate in student government activities, special interest clubs, athletic teams, and fine arts productions. CSI also takes great pride in offering innovative and state-of-the-art programs while maintaining an affordable, personalized experience for students.
Southern Idaho Economic Development
Formed in 2001, Southern Idaho Economic Development is a joint venture of public and private sectors throughout the Magic Valley, formed to help diversify and strengthen the local economy by retaining and attracting business to the Southern Idaho region. Southern Idaho Economic Development works closely with communities throughout the region to promote economic development through expansion of existing business and to implement a focused consistent program to attract new businesses and talent to the region. In 2018, we added Rural Economic Development Services to our organization to advocate for the region's rural communities, assist in business retention and expansion, and support small business.
Where strategy, feasibility, and research meet technology.
KRNLS is a boutique firm that is focused on research, implementation, and the design of advanced technologies for community relevant placemaking and economic development. Organizations such as NASA, DARPA, Hyperloop Transportation Technology, and Radius Indiana have all chosen to contract KRNLS for research, project management, and strategy development. Other government agencies from the US Department of Defense , the borough of Wilkinsburg, and the City of Pittsburgh have also engaged KRNLS for large scale planning, implementation, and smart cities projects.
Plaka + Associates
Plaka is a multi-faceted, woman-owned, consulting firm firm supporting industry, start-ups, developers, and economic development leaders in real estate and economic development. Based in Indianapolis and known for expert leadership in difficult projects, Plaka assists clients across the U.S. in innovative entrepreneurship and economic development analysis and implementation, including feasibility studies, labor analysis and strategies, redevelopment and revitalization planning, strategic planning, project management, and capacity building through a unique blend of expertise. Specifically, Plaka has worked with diverse populations and regions faced with opportunities and challenges related to igniting entrepreneurship and encouraging growth. Furthermore, Plaka team members work on a variety of entrepreneurship ecosystem assessments and plans, market assessments, and economic development strategic plans throughout the United States.
